Arabic speakers reside in Morocco, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, United Arab Emirates, Sudan, Kuwait, Jordan, etc. 

There is also half a dozen countries, like Chad, Israel, Somalia, that have Arabic as a second official language. 

There is great diversity among the many Arabic-speaking countries.   

Armenian - պահպանակ - pahpanak 

Armenia is a land-locked country located smack-dab in the middle between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Around 6 million people speak Armenian, of which 3 million live in Armenia.    

Azerbaijani - kondom 

Not surprising, Azerbaijani is spoken in Azerbaijan. 

This country has a population of 10 million and sits just to the north of another former Soviet Republic, Armenia.

Languages B to C

Bangali - কনডম - kanadama 

Bengali, spoken by some 250 million, is also referred to as Bangal. Bengali is the official language of Bangladesh and is one of the 20+ official languages of India.

Belarusian - прэзерватыў - preziervatyŭ 

Belarusian is the official language of Belarus. Located in the northern part of Eastern Europe, this country has 2.5 million native speakers (ca. 2011). Russian is also an official language of Belarus.      

Bosnian - kondom 

Approximately 3.5 million people speak Bosnian, mostly individuals in Bosnia, one of the countries in the former Soviet Republic of Yugoslavia.

There are approximately 4 million native speakers of Catalan spoken by people in a specific pocket of Western Europe (parts of Andorra, France, Italy, Spain).

22 official languages in India

Hindi - कंडोम - kandom 

There are 22 official languages in India. That might seem like a lot until you hear there are actually way more languages on this Sub-Asian continent. Some reports state 880 languages while others report over 1600 “mother tongues”. The good news is that English is also widely spoken due to the British colonization of India back in the 1700s. 

Hindi, one of the official Indian languages, is spoken by 260 million in India, making it one the of Top 5 most spoken languages in the world.

Hungarian - óvszer 

Hungary is a country in Central Europe with a rich history due to is geographic location. Hungarian is native to 13 million speakers. Remember how we talked about there being three main languages the Uralic language family? 

We already talked about Finnish and Estonian. Believe it or not, Hungarian is the third, even though it’s much farther south in Europe than the other two. You’ll often see Hungarian on the list of most difficult languages to learn, as it doesn’t share its roots with the Romance or Germanic languages.

Icelandic - smokk 

Icelandic is in the Nordic branch of Germanic languages and has over 350,000 native speakers. When we saw the word for “condom” in Icelandic, we thought, “If you don’t use a smokk in Iceland, you are definitely a schmuck.” By the way, Icelandic is an old language.

Latvian is the language of Latvia, a country in Europe with a population of nearly 2 million people.   

Lithuanian - prezervatyvas 

Lithuania is also one of the former Soviet bloc nations with a population close to 3 million who speak Lithuanian.       

Luxembourgish – kondom 

Luxembourgish is a West Germanic language used by almost 400 thousand people in Luxemburg, the smallest country in Western Europe.
